We’re a community of amateur musicians singing shape-note music in Central Virginia.

All are welcome to join us, no experience is required, and loaner tunebooks are available.

About Us

Our regular singings are on the first Tuesday of each month, from 7:00-9:00 pm, and the third Sunday of each month from 2:00-4:00 pm.

The James River Convention (our all-day singing) happens on the first Saturday in November, also at St. Giles. This year’s date is November 1, 2025. More information can be found here.

Tunebooks

At our regular singings two main books are used: the Sacred Harp (2025 edition) and the Shenandoah Harmony.

Sometimes we also sing out of the Valley Pocket Harmonist and the Cooper edition of the Sacred Harp, as well as newly-written music; ours is a living tradition and we are a curious and inquisitive group of singers!
